I bought two pots, trays, soil, and got some spinach seeds from the library. However, it started raining quite harshly, so I couldn't go outside and do anything. I started priming the spinach seeds by soaking them overnight.
I cut three green onions that I bought from the grocery store, and I planted the roots in a 6-inch pot of soil. I watered it.
I put the spinach seeds on a paper towel to dry for one to two days.
In just one day, the green onions grew about 1 centimeter.
Overall, the green onions are about 6 centimeters tall.
This afternoon, I planted nine spinach seeds in a 12-inch pot of soil. The packet says they are supposed to emerge in seven to fourteen days, but I primed them, so maybe they will emerge earlier.
About seven of the spinach plants emerged!
Another spinach sprout emerged, making it eight in total.
I used leftover rice water to water the spinach and green onions.
I named my green onions Or, Ro, and Ron (Like Ororon, hahaha). Or is 20 cm, Ro is 12 cm, and Ron is 9 cm.
Some spinach have grown their true leaves, so I thinned them. I tried to replant some of the thinned spinach sprouts, but I know spinach doesn't like being transplanted, so I'm not sure if it will work. I had some leftover spinach sprouts still, so I just rinsed them off and ate them.
The two spinach transplants suddenly shriveled up over night even though they looked fine the day before. I water the pot, but I'm not sure if that will help. Oh well.
By the way, I decided to name my spinach pot Borsche (rhymes with Porsche), nicknamed Borscht. This is because when I told Jay that I ate the spinach sprouts, he said I ate the babies, and I called it a spinach abortion, and Borsche sounds like abortion. Kind of.
Or, Ro, and Ron are doing well. Maybe I should harvest from them soon.
I plucked the shriveled sprouts and dried them in the sun. Then I crumbled them over the survivors, hopefully to serve as nutrients.
Or is 28.5 cm tall, Ro is 21.5 cm tall, and Ron is 17.5 cm tall. I cut Or today to add garnish to my dinner.
The spinach are growing. All have their true leaves, and some are even growing another pair.
Almost all the spinach have started growing their third pair of true leaves.
I harvested my spinach pot for about 25 leaves!
